Dr Dion Kagan, BA (Hons), PhD

Dion Kagan is a Research Associate and Partner Investigator with Health+Law, which works to improve access to justice and quality of life for people living with hepatitis B and HIV in Australia. Dion has a multi-disciplinary background in humanities and social sciences, with an interest in critical health studies, and expertise on blood-borne viruses, healthcare, gender, sexuality and stigma. He has contributed to research projects on HIV, hepatitis C, stigma and discrimination, community health, drugs, media, technology, gender, sexuality and lifestyle practices at La Trobe University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, the Victorian College of the Arts, Monash University, and now UNSW. He has lectured in Gender Studies, Cultural Studies and Sexualities Studies at La Trobe university and the University of Melbourne, where he completed a PhD in the School of Culture and Communication. Dion is also a working literary critic and an Institue of Professional Editors (IPED)-certified editor who has previously worked for academic and trade publishers. He is the author of a book on HIV an popular English-speaking screen culture, titled ‘Positive Images: Gay Men and HIV/AIDS in the Culture of ‘Post-Crisis’.
