Your sex or gender could be the difference between life or death.
We believe that true health equity begins with understanding and addressing the unique needs of women, men, and gender-diverse people. The Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine is leading the way in tackling the systemic inequities that have shaped medical research, treatment, and care for generations.
For too long, women’s health, as well as the health of people with variations in sex characteristics, and trans and gender-diverse people, has been misunderstood, under-researched, and underfunded. Despite advances in healthcare, the default medical model has largely been designed around men’s bodies, ignoring critical differences and perpetuating inequities. For some health conditions, we also have very little information on men and boys, given the conditions occur predominantly in women. At the Centre, we are driving groundbreaking research, education, and advocacy to ensure that sex and gender are recognised as fundamental to health outcomes – for everyone.

Why Your Support Matters
Achieving health equity requires recognition that people experience certain biological and health conditions uniquely, differently, or disproportionately, as a function of their sex and/or gender.
