Our History

The Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine was launched in March 2024 as a key outcome of the multi-year philanthropically funded Sex and Gender Policies in Health and Medical Research project, led by the Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW, and The George Institute for Global Health.

The project team led world-leading research and policy activities and developed crucial partnerships to advance sex and gender equity in health and medicine. The team investigated and identified what it will take to advance sex and gender equity in health and medicine in Australia, at the community, institutional and systemic levels, ensuring that research and policy translates into practice. The project made significant impact and delivered activities to shift research and policy practice to advance health equity and health outcomes for all Australians.
